Repair the World

The Village Temple is more than just a synagogue. It is also a community within a community bound together by a commitment to Gemilut Khasadim, acts of loving-kindness. Every VT member is encouraged to devote time, resources and energy to moving forward our objective of Tikkun Olam, Repair of the World.

The Village Temple strives to be an action oriented congregation and to integrate Jewish social justice values into the whole life of the Congregation.

The Village Temple has engaged members in discussion and action on the genocide in Darfur, Hurricane Katrina relief, Downtown Kehillah Mitzvah Day, GLBT (gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender) inclusion, and issues related to Israel, among other topics.

A recent highlight was in April 2006, when 53 Temple members and friends joined tens of thousands of other concerned citizens at the Save Darfur Rally in Washington, DC. In the coming years, we will continue the effort to extend our commitment as a congregation to tikkun olam (repairing the world).

If you are interested in taking a more active role in the Temple’s social justice efforts, please contact the Rabbi or speak with a member of the Board of Trustees.
