Social Action

The Village Temple membership and leadership believe that social action is central to our faith.

"You are not obligated to complete the work, but neither are you free to desist from it." (Pirkei Avot 2:16)

Repairing the world is a core value of Judaism.

The Village Temple’s Social Action Committee (VT SAC) works towards creating a more whole, just, and compassionate world. Our current efforts include, but are not limited to Climate Justice, Immigration (Welcoming the Stranger), and Civic Engagement.

The committee meets monthly to share information about upcoming events and plans participation in actions, activities and campaigns such as: Get Out The Vote postcard writing (RAC), the Welcome Campaign (HIAS), and a Dayenu Circle (Dayenu). We create programming for Refugee Shabbat, and invite compelling speakers to address our congregation throughout the year.

Though the issues are serious, VT SAC members enjoy developing friendships, looking out for one another and working together toward our common goals! If you are interested in learning more and getting involved in our work, please join us!

"If I am not for myself, who will be for me? And when I am only for myself, what am 'I'? And if not now, when?" (Pirkei Avot 1:14)
